I am (a poem)

I wrote the following poem as a final project for term 1 of my Advance Consciousness Class (ACS). ACS is part of a two-year program culminating for a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner certification through the Centers of Spiritual Living (CSL). CSL is the official organization licensing and ordaining graduates in the teaching of Ernest Holmes, one of the greatest New Thought leaders of our time and the author of Science of Mind.

I designed the poem to be read while listening to an ambient recording I made on the porch of my house in East Nashville, TN. I uploaded the soundscape for SoundCloud for your streaming convenience. Play the recording while reading the poem for the best experience.

I am.

I am.
I am aware of myself sitting here.
I am aware
of my emotions,
of thoughts.
Waves of energy move through me.
I can feel my hands,
my feet,
my entire body
… pulsating.

The world is
rustling about.
Wind is blowing.
Listen.
Can you hear the leaves shaking?
A large bunch just blew past the window like a flock of birds.
A car drove by.
A dog barked.
A squirrel warned a cat to stay away.

Where does all this come from?
Everything comes from something.
My self-awareness came from
something
that is itself
self-aware.
How could it be otherwise?
We create what we are.
So, I know there is a
self awareness
beyond,
that gave birth to,
my self-awareness.

For now…

this is enough.
